The wastewater plant in the Denver Mint has been in operation since the mid-1980’s. The current treatment process uses ferrous and lime slurry to remove metal contaminants, neutralizes the water, and sends water to drain and solids to the landfill. The powder chemical dosing is messy, costly, and renders the wastewater useless.
This project will replace the chemical treatment with vacuum distillation technology for water purification. By removing the chemicals, the water quality is elevated, allowing the US Mint to reuse the water in the coin manufacturing process. Additionally, steam condensate heat will be harnessed for re-use in the manufacturing plant.
